Candida Overgrowth Symptoms

Candida is a form of fungus that is like yeast. It is usually present in the intestine and mouth of humans in small amounts. Candida enables us to have proper nutrient and digestion. However, when it is present in large quantities or there is an overgrowth, then the intestine wall gets broken and the blood stream is penetrated, which can cause real fatal health issues if not treated early.

What are the symptoms of Candida overgrowth for women and men?

Yeast Infection Treatment

In a study mentioned in the Journal of medical and veterinary mycology, 106 women had swabs from the vagina of women who had abnormal discharge. The results found that vaginal Candida yeast infections are best detectable from of pruritus (itching) and abnormal vaginal discharge.

The findings of this study clearly suggest that pruritus (itching) and abnormal vaginal discharge are some clear symptoms to know if one has vaginal Candida infections. One must look for a whitish vaginal discharge in particular, along with sometimes the signs of pain when urination. Moreover, those who are undergoing treatment for cancer and are terminally ill, can undergo this problem. Other diseases like pruritus, vaginitis, and discharge are also responsible for Candida. Proper food diet, exercise, and medical treatment have to be undertaken to avoid getting infected with Candida overgrowth.

Why does Candida overgrowth happen?

Some of the factors which make the Candida overgrowth symptoms happen include:

  • When you tend to eat a diet which is high in refined sugar and carbohydrates.

  • When you consume high amounts of alcohol.

  • When you are taking oral contraceptives.

  • When you consume food which are fermented like pickles.

  • When you are living a very high-stress and pressure life.

  • When you take antibiotics which can kill friendly bacteria.

Some of the negative effects of sugar on the human body include:

  • Sugar decreases the body defense against bacteria.

  • Sugar reduces the mineral content on the body.

  • Sugar decreases the absorption capabilities of magnesium and calcium.

  • Sugar reduces the absorption of protein.

  • Sugar changes the protein structure.

  • Sugar immensely increases the fluid retention present in the body.

  • Sugar causes imbalances in the hormones in the body.

  • Sugar is a very addictive substance which is similar to alcohol.

In a study conducted in support by Forth Valley Health Board, to access the presence of oral Candida in patients who are terminally ill with signs of oral Candida and undergoing antifungal treatment, it was found out Candida albicans were present in 29-50% among healthy people. However it increased in patients who have been immune compromised with cancer.

The study was done among 140 consecutive patients that included 71 women. The mouth swabs were taken from the labial-gingival fold near the molars and the pharyngeal area at weekly intervals. The results showed an increase among patients who were undergoing treatment in the hospital. It was found that steroid drugs, Morphine tablets, and Laxative syrup where shown to have high presence of Candida in the oral tests. (See table below)

Candida Symptoms

Overall, the findings of this study suggest that very small amounts of Candida cells are naturally found within the mouths of people. But also that intake of certain medications like steroid drugs, Morphine tablets, and Laxative syrup can also increase the growth of Candida in the mouth and body. The results in the table also clearly highlight some of the clear symptoms of oral Candida overgrowth like: dirty tounge, white lesions, red mucosa, and dry mouth, all of which can be useful indicators for providing easy diagnosis of oral Candida quickly.

Testing for Candida at your Home

The need to visit a hospital or clinic and find out whether you have been affected with Candida overgrowth symptoms is not there, as you can test for Oral Candida at your own home. You can do a very simple and easy spit test that can be performed anywhere.

The procedure for the spit test is: After get up in the morning (before brushing), take a see-through clear glass of water at room temperature and spit some saliva into the glass of water. After 20 minutes, check the water and to see for strings which are present when looking through the side of the glass. You can also find small particles suspended at the bottom of the glass. If you notice any of these, then you will want to know that you very much indeed have a Candida problem.

Taking Essential Supplements

When you are suffering from Candida overgrowth symptoms, you will want to ensure that you make your immune system strong by taking essential minerals and vitamins. You can try out some Chlorella powder which contains minerals, vitamins, and enzymes. It not only helps in building up the immune system, but also detoxifies pesticides and heavy metals present in the body. The digestive system is also improved and the energy levels become high. Blood pressure can also be reduced.

You can also taking some other capsules each day, including: Vitamin B Complex – 50 mgs. twice per day, Vitamin C with bioflavonoids – 1000 mgs. twice per day, Vitamin D (with vitamin A), Vitamin E, containing natural alpha tocopherol, and Calcium/Magnesium Citrate.
