In October 2002, a study was attempted to investigate if women suffering from recurrent vaginal Candidiasis had to undergo a disturbed glucose metabolism. Almost 62 healthy women with no diabetic conditions were studied under this case study. All these women suffered from Candida vaginitis at least two to three times a year. Another group of 32 women were taken into consideration who had no signs of Candida infections in their bodies. Surprisingly, neither of the group reflected results different from the other. It was observed that glucose percentage was higher in the Candida afflicted individuals than in the control subjects. This goes to show that glucose tends to hang around longer in patients with Candida vaginitis.
The non-diabetic group of women experienced a discrete impairing of glucose tolerance. Also, it was interesting to note that all the women with Candidiasis in this study had a higher body mass index compared to the control subjects, which clearly goes to show that if one is overweight then they would have a higher chance of developing Candida yeast infection than people who are of normal weight.
